I’m heading to the keys next weekend. I have read some old threads saying you can collect softies with a fishing license. Does anyone know if this is still true? I tried to search a bit for info on their game licensing website but I didn’t see anything….

I believe the rule is 5 polyps soft coral per day per person with a license. There’s a lot of pipefish out there, I caught several dozen last summer! They’re very easy to catch, they’re right on the surface and in knee deep water, I just walked around with a net and a water bottle to do the collecting. I also caught cocoa damsels, sergeant majors, starfish, Florida cerith snails, and reef hermits while snorkeling! Have a great trip! All my livestock did great for 5 days in a styrofoam cooler with an air stone and daily water changes

I had read that you can take 20 specimens per day it must have changed. Thank you for adding to the conversation I really appreciate it.
Technically, you can take as many as you want so long as your not caught....

Cody is the reason there's a Hawaii ban
And in response, I banned Hawaii. From what, I haven’t quite figured out yet.

Unless you are on tank air and you know how to collect...you more than likely will not end up with anything of worth, at least from a fish standpoint. Trust me, not easy. For corals...same thing...have to get a bit deep to find the good stuff.

I have been to key West and it is an awesome place to visit. While I was in West Palm Beach I will never forget all the brightly coloured fish right at the dock.
