I hate it when I get stn for no explainable reason. Wish I could figure this out. Just venting.

. Mostly, though today a previously unaffected stag started on the tip of a branch. I thought I had beat it through water changes and carbon addition. But then I noticed new necrosis on that stag, hence the grrr.DustinB said:STN from the base?
. Color of the necrosis is white. I thought alk as well, and it well could be that. With my dosing pumps it has been rock steady for about 6 months, well dosing container ran dry unnoticed. It dropped 2 dkh. It has been restabilized and I was hoping for a reversal, been about two weeks.DustinB said:What is the color like? Sounds like an alk problem. How old are your tests and what are you using?
DustinB said:It can take some time to bounce back. Just keep the alk steady and it should stop soon. I'm guessing you normally run your alk around 8 or 9? If so, dropping 2dKH will definitely cause STN. Usually a swing like that will cause it period.
DustinB said:I'm building an ATO container with a float switch in the bottom to wire in a buzzer. Should be able to do the same with a dosing container.
. Yeah, float switch would work great. Problem is fitting one inside the containers I have, about a 1" diameter opening. Considering the recent events, new containers are in order.gmoroney said:I haven't personally done it, but use a float switch installed upside down.
