...or you could get a better skimmer Kim. Last I checked Prizims were only slightly more effective than Skilters.

Tom,

Yeah yeah.... :booty: I guess I could, the thing is I do have a hair algae outbreak in this tank about once or twice a year, but at different times it seems....and my Prizm picks up some pretty nasty gunk, too...although with the age and bioload of my tank, it might be a good time to upgrade my skimmer I guess, since it is going on 3 1/2 years now.

The only thing is I really don't have the $ to buy an expensive skimmer right now.

I am sure there are some DIY mods out there you could do. If people can get Sea "Clowns" working well I am sure you can fix up that prizm. Hair Algae is tied directly to excess nutrients where as cyano is tied to flow. Try to figure out what you are doing to cause it. Water changes work but you are dilluting the problem not eliminating it by relying on WCs as a source of nutrient export. You could always make a ghetto HOB fuge out of a tall rectangular tupperwear container. You would make it just like a CPR Back Pack Skimmer with a PH in the tank feeding the ghetto fuge.
