I went looking for one of thoe giant front yard blow up things for the kids this year and instead of saying Merry Christmas they all say happy holidays. I have friends of all different faith, colors, and economic background and not one of them gives a rat arse if you tell they Merry Christmas even if they are Jewish, Muslim, or even Atheist. So when you are wished a happy holiday by the walmart greeter bust out a good ole Merry Christmas and stand up for what is right, I bet they wish you one back.

i agree i grew up with merry christmas and i don't have a problem with it. i'm not really religious and if i had to claim a religion it would be jesus christ but i still think of it as christmas. i don't understand why in the last few years this is been such a big thing.

if people get offended but a simple joy intented comment i wonder what their lives are like.

They will beat you to the punch this year as Walmart has decided to start wishing Merry Christmas again.

Happy Holidays should be reserved for the beginning of the new year to cover all the holidays we will have that year. After that day, no more saying Happy Holidays.

A merry Christ Mass, as the name implies represents a particular church service done to commerate the birth of Jesus Christ. Christ; he will save, Mass; worship service by universal western christianity. So basically, have fun at church on the 25th of December!!! :-o

Happy Holidays. This is derived from holy day that is a given saints day. Hence holiday. So based on the western model happy holiday is a blessing for a person to enjoy a spiritual day with that patron saint. So holiday is less PC than Merry Christmas. :(

So thank the next person who blesses you to enjoy the next holiday, I will :D

I got this in an email from my sister today. It made me think of this thread!

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a "Holiday".
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "Dream Tree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!

A Politically Correct
Christmas Greeting

Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all;

Additionally,

a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes.

(Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

Sorry I had to try and lighten the (at least my) mood. Mel that is one scary and yet very true poem, I weep for this country.
