Okay, so this morning it is nice and rainy in Houston. I leave to work and maybe 20 minutes out I get a notification that the tank cam was disconnected. I knew this was likely due to the power going out. So a few minutes later I turn on the app to check the cam just to see if the power had been restored. Of course the power is back on already but now my DC return pump is at full blast. This happens each time if there is a power failure. So now that the pump has been on max blowing tons of microbubbles in the tank and dumped all the fresh water from the ato into the sump, I have to make a call so someone can rush back to the apt to make sure everything is ok and to readjust the return pump flow. So, my big question is.... does anyone know how to readjust the setting for when the pump cuts back on when there is a power failure? Only when the power fails and power returns does the pump reset to max power so I need to figure out how to change it or find an alternative return pump so this doesn't continue to happen. If anyone could give me some help or good suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't have any helpful info...sorry :(

But what brand/model is it? Might help narrow down to responses relevant to your pump..

No worries.. just trying to get someone with same type of pump to provide some input for you.. :) I could blabber but it would be worth less than 2 pennies..

I appreciate you responding at all. Hmm, can't seem to access this link at work so I probably have to wait until I get home. This week has not started off as the most pleasant lol. I'll definitely check out that link when I get home. Thanks Steve. :becky:

I'll post it here so you don't have to wait :D

Hi,

So I've had my Jebao DCT 8000 return pump for a good few days now, and was going to give it a week, then probably write a review.

I have the pump on number 2 out of 10. Which the manual suggests it should go from 4000 LPH to 8000 LPH. Number 2 is highest I can use before the weir gets noisy as the water goes through the weir comb too fast and sprays out, rather than running over the edge. I'd planned to widen these gaps, so I could use the pump on a higher setting to get more from it...

After a brief power outage, when the power returned, I looked at the tank to watch the soft-start (which is very good) slowly build up the speed. I then noticed it went way beyond my setting and ramped the pump all the way up to full blast.

My DT and sump design means it can't ever flood. There's enough volume in the return chamber that when the pump goes up to full, and that starts to drain as the level in the tank rises a bit, the emergency overflow dumps all excess water beyond the governance of the ball valve back into the sump, continuing the loop.

But not all sumps and tanks are set up that way, and if a sudden rush of flow like that causes a tank or sump to lose water, you'll choke the return pump, cutting off the tank from the life support beneath.

Assuming my pump's controller isn't just faulty, this is a complete flaw in the product's design. A tank should always be able to return to running normally after a power outage.

After checking this is normal behavior, my DCT pump is going back. It's a real shame, but not a flaw I can live with. Even if it doesn't cause me much grief. (actually, it would if I was away for days, as the emergency overflow obviously causes a billion bubbles as it's like niagra falls, it pulls a lot of air down with it, and that causes water spray when these pop at the surface, which would lose water that way).

After reading this Mike I decided to try mine and yes it's at full power after just being unplugged and plugged straight back in again

Luckily we haven't had a power outage for more years than I can remember....but that doesn't mean it will never happen though.

Looks like I'll be getting in touch with them when I have five minutes to see what they say about it.

Thanks for posting. Yea looks like I can't find much on a resolution online. Might need to find a new return pump. [emoji26]

Hey there,

So, one of my Jebao pump controllers does that. I use a DCT-15000 and it uses a 100w controller. When the power fails, it always cranks up to full blast. There are a couple of ways to fix this...

1. Get a new controller.
2. Use one that is similar, if you have one. (I have an almost identical pump controller, but it's a 150w. Works fine.)
3. Always run it on full speed, but add a valve inline so you can throttle it back.

It's annoying, I know... But those are the only ways to fix the problem as cheaply as possible. You do have a backup return pump anyway, right? [emoji6]

Hey flip,
I don't have another controller or a back up pump. I got rid of it sometime ago. I'll have to look into getting a back up and see about another controller. 😥 I'll look into it this weekend when I have more free time ☺

I know this is super late and I am sure it isn't going to help anyone but thought I'd post anyways haha. I realized my dc return pump is a Jebao. So once again I had to run home the other day from work cause again it reset full blast during thunderstorms. I decided to take the controller off and open it up just to see what was inside. Didn't see anything I could adjust but the weirdest thing, once I closed it back up and plugged it back up it no longer reset back at full blast. It restarted back at the last setting I had it and so I figured I just got lucky. So I unplugged the power and plugged it back up at least 3 or 4 times and each time it was on the last saved settings. So somehow I guess it corrected itself? Odd I know but I guess that's good for me. But will still get a back up pump soon in case hehe.

OH OH.............. you just voided the lifetime warranty to the corner of the LFS from jebao.
You never know what the equipment of jebao is doing.
I had some jebao pump of all kinds that I won in contest but I either handed them out to ppl in need of some kind of pump and told them to keep don't bother to bring it back.
Few weeks ago I still found one and a marshian moonshiner grabbed it out my trash can.

I have an idea it may help you is plug the power into UPS at battery source so your setting won't erase when the power reset.
