I'm going to buy a pair of clowns and keeping them by themselves.
Which kind do you vote for?
I already have a pair of Gold Stripe Maroons.
I'm thinking percs or oscellaris but want some other people's opinions.
Saddlebacks maybe.

I'm not too worried about knowing the exact species cuz I just want them for my viewing pleasure. If they happened to start breeding, then I'd be more interested in the species.

Ocellaris ship terribly so be prepared if you get a WC pair for a lot of TLC. Tank raised juviniles are readily available and Ocellaris are easy to pair up. Ocellaris come in a black variant as well as the typical orange. A. Percula is another bad shipper but seems to do better than Ocellaris. I have yet to find many WC or TR perculas locally. A. Percula comes in an awesome Solomon Island and Onyx variant that has lots of black and white and less orange. Saddle backs ship better and if you get them healthy from the store you should be ok. TR saddlebacks are readily availble and they are they may fight it out more for their gender roles than Ocellaris but pairing up juviniles shouldn't be too hard. Saddle backs come in a black variant often mislabled "Black Percula" at stores also. Saddlebacks get huge so you need to have at least a tank 30" in lenght for them
If I were you I would buy two TR Black Ocellaris and pair them up. There has been little luck breeding them but they are an awesome fish.

Those are the clowns you listed other ones to consider.

Flame Clown or Red Saddleback Clown Amphiprion ephippium
Cool clown only one w/o stripes
Pink or Orange Skunk Clownfish
Different color. Easy to get TR now.

I have seen a Flame Clown locally three times and it was never a pair. Flame Clowns are in the tomato complex so you will find that they are very much like tomato and cinnamon clowns. On a side note they are intolerent of copper so don't QT a Flame Clown in a tank with copper. If you want a pair the only place that I have seen them on line is at Inland Aquatics or you could ask one of the local stores to order you a pair.

I got a pair of ephippium's from, *dont slap me* Petco, becuz my buddy worked there, so I knew they were healthy, and petco gets them from ORA. The ephippium's had been there for a while, the only 2 there.

I don't know what those kind look like.
What is their common name?

Fish R Us actually has about 4 or 5 Flame clowns in right now.
They don't look too happy in the tank together though.

Wow I knew Petco ordered from ORA but I did not know any of them bought A. Ephippium. Very cool I'll have to check around next tank I set up because I have not seen them at the local PetCos.

PetCos get a bad rap..sure the fish get sick and die eventually but if you get something like a clownfish that has a short time span at the store and is fresh from ORA there is not a problem. Other than being a little thin sometimes, I would have to say PetCo has some of the best Ocellaris in town.

I know this question is kind of an oxymoron in itself, but I'm still gonna ask.
Which clowns are the most docile/passive?

Docile Clowns???? Is there such a thing, doubtful, but of all clowns which are the LEAST aggresive.

Anything in the Skunk Complex is going to be the most passive they even border on being skitish at first around people. Then comes Ocellaris folowed by Percula.

I think your thoughts on clown agressivness are a bit skewed since you are keeping by far the meanest of all the clowns right now - Maroons. :D

Yea, I had a tomato clown for about 6 months or so, it was a mean cuss.
I had a tank raised perc (labeled perc from petco, I believe was oscellaris though) that was really vicious, he'd bite me every time I reached in the tank.

I gotta get my wife's input on these too which is gonna make it harder.
I'm leaning towards flames but don't think she'll like them.

When I (briefly) had some ocellaris in my tank before, they would bite my hands every time I put them in the tank. So far, my maroon has been a perfect angel - I can even hand-feed silversides to her anemone while she is in it, and she doesn't bite me. Not yet anyway.

I'm not sure yet if I just happened to get a more easy-going maroon, or if she is just young and will become a terror when she matures more.

With the biting it is all about how you react to it if you re-inforce the behavior by jerking your hand out of the tank or by scaring them with your hand they are going to do it over and over again. I find Ocellaris bite just because they are pigs and want to eat. Most of my clowns I can catch with my hand and one female will swim in my hand as if it were an anenome. Tomato and Maroons are known to draw blood from time to time if they feel like it. All my fish see my hand as a source of food because I hand feed so the only thing I get are love nibbles which feel very different from the hate bites I have gotten from them before they trusted me and from other fish.

I have also found WC clowns tend to be much more aggresive, distrusting, and spiteful compared to TR clowns.
