Back in 2011 when I set up my 150g, I didn't want direct rock to glass contact on the bottom of the aquarium and I also wanted the sand to stay in place so I put down egg crate then added rock and covered the bottom with about 1" of sand. Seemed like a great idea at the time and the tank did very well. Now it's time to move everything to a different tank and that includes 2 carpet anemones. It appears the carpets like the egg crate too as they have managed to push through the sand and stick to the bottom of the tank in multiple little squares through it.

Aiming a powerhead at the foot won't work cause I cant get to it. Can't get my fingers to the bottom either. I took a flat rock and pushed it against the part of the base I can get to on one of them in hopes it might be irritated enough to move and get on the rock (wishful thinking) . I'd be happy if I could get it to move to the glass. Any suggestions?

If its egg crate, can you cut out the piece they are stuck to and move to a part of the tank that is easier to work in? Can you take a few pictures? Im a visual person myself so maybe if we could see it we can brainstorm a little better.

But if you cant cut it and a power head wont work have you tried ice?

I have used a magnet with success on a rbta. Not sure about a carpet though.

A magnet? How would you do that?
On a rbta, just hold it next to the edge of its foot and it will slowly start to pick it up. Takes 10-15 min but once they start to pick it up, you can get a finger underneath and slowly work it off. Doesn't work when they are imbedded in a hole in a rock though.

Success in moving one of the carpets. The wedging a rock against the base worked. It moved onto the rock after a couple of days, and was able to be relocated to the new tank. Trying that method with carpet #2.

I tried using frozen bags of ice to get it to move but due to he eggcrate, I can't get to the bottom of the foot so I'm glad the rock trick worked.
