Finally have water in he 215! I have an Iwalki 70 pump. It is a noisy BEAST!. It is also blowing air. Does anyone have either a way to adjust this thing and quiet it down a few notches, OR another QUIETER one? It can be any brand, just quiet. I cant have this thing in my living room making this much noise. I can hear it in every room of my house.

HELP FAST!! :help:

Any input appreciated.

Hank

If it is blowing bubbles out of the return you have one or more of the following going on...

1 - bubbles from skimmer section are making it to the pump (too much flow or not enough baffling to stop bubbles)
2 - your pump is cavitating (suction side plumbing is to small for pump)
3 - somewhere on the suction side of the pump you are pulling in air (poor pipe or threaded connection in plumbing on suction side of pump)

Is the noise primarily coming from the the bubbles/air or the pump motor itself?

+1 on Steve.

As this is a external pump I would look first to check the plumbing going into the pump.
How old is the pump?

I got a fluval sea sp6 a while back. I am using it internally, but it is a great pump and nearly silent. Very little heat generated and it moves a ton of water.

Blowbole Dc pumps are junk. All the blowholes have been discontinued. I've replaced 3 in 4 months. Dennis I'm gonna come check out these speedwaves.

What a difference! I did purchase the Speedwave from Dennis at FJW. It is so quiet I thought it was broken. I replumbed it and added another a shutoff valve in line. I also made it an internal pump. This gives me another 18-20" of additional storage under my tank.
I did some further research on the Iwalki pumps. They are loud by design. This would be a great pump if I had a basement sump. The air being blown through was caused by stress on the threads on the supply side. The thing was not level.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Nothing beats Eheim in my opinion. I have a 1262 which is well over 9 yrs old and very quiet.
