I'm curious to know what others are doing to keep temp down other than using a chiller. What would you guys recommend to drop the temp a few degrees? I get up to around 81.5-82 degrees by the end of my lighting cycle. If using fans, any recommendations would be nice. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How many hours you run the lights/what time period?

I got a couple $10 clip on fans at Home Depot and direct the air under my lights.. I also keep my thermostat in my house set at about 73. My tank heater then comes on several times a day to keep it at exactly 78.

I'd like to keep mine around 78 myself. I keep my house at 73-74 but I guess the lighting is too much.

Hydra 26 or 52? Neither one should be putting off that much heat. Try moving the light up and increase intensity. Distance makes a huge difference.

I only run my lights 10 hours a day, I concur with raising a couple inches if possible. Also don't think running
at 81 or so will hurt you. Mine get up to between 81 to 83 all summer long. Of course Im home and able to keep watch.

They are 26's. I have an AIO tank from Red Sea. Max E260. Maybe I should call them...

I'm running my 26's on an IM20 and 40 and have no heat issues related to light. Mine are about 15" off the water and still grow SPS even at 65% intensity.

Hmm that is weird I run 26 and never had a issue with heat. LED doesn't give up enough heat to make a difference IMO.

What kind of pumps and how many are you running.

Everything is stock from Red Sea. I figured I wouldn't have a heat issue with LED. I was tired of the heat issues I had on my old tank with metal halides. Here's my temporary fix until I figure something out. Lol

You might drop a temp gauge in your sump near your pump and see if maybe your pump is putting off to much heat. If it's warmer in your sump than in your tank than that might boil down your issue somewhat. Also are you running a light in your sump during the day?

Is there an ac vent in the tank area...I'm surprised that the tank gets that warm if the house ac is in low to mid 70s. Is your ac functioning properly?

Yeah, it may get a bit warmer on that side of the house though. The thermostat is located on the opposite side of the house. I guess I could add a thermometer near the tank to monitor the ambient temp. I guess I could always upgrade my thermostat to a nest or something..

Those lights and where they are positioned should not increase your temps much at all not that LED's impact tank temps like T5's or MH. Are your temp issues new or did they develop over the past couple of weeks now that the outside temps are hitting 95+? What kind of heater are you running and what is your base temp set at? Have you tried reducing your set temp a degree or to?

It looks like the tank is near the front door, what direction does your house/apt face? If it or the wall your tank is on faces west and is an external wall it's likely that the temp climb is due to radiant heat penetrating the walls/door after getting blasted by the sun in the late afternoon causing your tank's temp to climb. Another possibility is if there is a window near the tank that get's a lot of sun and could also be an unexpected source of heat.

As far as the Nest.. There is a better unit that does a lot more that has additional sensors that you place on opposite ends of the house or in a specific area. Once programmed you can have it set to where it will run the A/C unit until the entire house is at the set temp or to a specific room is. You can even add register vent controllers to it so it will automatically adjust airflow to different areas of the house to cool a specific room or area.
