Might be a sponge or some sort of tube worm hard to tell from the pic. Can you get a close up of it?

Camera's not to great, but will try to get a better close pic.

FYI, The red thing is hard, it is not soft like a sponge.

To clarify-
I am asking about the red flower coral looking thing not the worm looking item

dang it, you beat me to it don. that's exactly what it is. not a problem, but it may sting some of your corals if they get too close to each other. it's just a typical hitchhiker on live rock. shouldn't be a problem. i've got a bunch scattered about in the crevices of my live rock.

np brandon, for what it's worth Capt, I think they are cool and generally cause no damage, plus it adds a bit of red to the rock

This is correct, that kind of foram is a filter feeder, harmless and does not sting corals (they don't have stinging cells). Although they can be sharp and a soft coral brushing up against it from high flow could become irritated.

okay, i was partially right. but i thought i read somewhere, i believe in the drs. foster and smith magazine, that they could sting corals. guess not. oh well.
