I really like the blue color of my tank. I am running 4 actinic PC's with 2 10 k bulbs. I am switching/buying tonite dual 250 watt metal halides for my 150. This with be with halides only. My question is shoudl I go with 20 k or 15k bulbs to achieve the blue color with no additional lighting. Also will I be able to grow with a 20 k bulb?

I have the phoenix 250w over my 30g and it's a nice blue..not 20k blue which IMO is like running only actinics.

I use the 14k Phoenix bulbs and I love the color.

I have 2 x 250w with 14k Phoenix and a 1 x 150w 20k that comes on for dawn and dusk and to give the coraline that extra blue spectrum for 6 hours of the day.

I am running 2 x 250w 15k phoenix bulbs also and am happy with the colors.
You can stop by and take a look if you'd like and visit your old hippo tang :)

If you like blue then I wouldn't go much lower than 14K. However the color is also affected by the ballast you are using. I bought new 250w bulbs this week. I have not lit them up, but before purchasing anything I did a lot of reading. Go through some old posts on this site. Look around in Reefcentral, and wear out Google. You will find a lot of info and opinions on any kind of lighting you could imagine.
