Ok, I am helping a friend set up a 35 gallon Saltwater Hex tank. I have herd the hex tanks are not good for salt water but that is all he has. What do you think will be the best way to go as far as lighting and filtration? The top is only about 20” so I was thinking about going with the coralife power quad50/50. As For filtration I was thinking about going with a cpr backpack because it is a skimmer and has some sort of mechanical filtration. Do you have any better hang on tank preferences.

Remona is a good one, actually one of the best.
What does he plan on keeping?
If he wants to eventual get SPS then think of MH, otherwise your light sounds good, how deep is this tank?

Don't forget powerheads.

I have never used one but the via aqua skimmer/uv sterilzers look good. I have seen them on some tanks before and they seem to work good.

Your plan sounds great. I love my CPR Bak-Pak, and had one in use on a 45 hex for several years. The powerquad is a good lighting choice if you aren't planning on keeping corals or clams that demand intense lighting.

I had a CPR bak-pak II on my 55 gallon and after I dialed it in a little it worked GREAT. YUCKY skimmate every few days to remove.

i would suggest a 150w halide if the depth of the tank is 24" or less. If it's greater than 24" i would suggest a 250w.

PC's lose about 95% of their PAR rating within 5 inches of the water column, so unless you're using it for a fish only tank, i wouldn't go that route.

A MH would be your best bet, and i think you'd get a nice distribution over your aquarium.

If going to go Metal halide go double ended not single.

But really we need to know what he thinks he would keep for us to help with lighting.

The tank is about 20 inches, But the problem is the shape of the tank. It makes it hard to put halid lighting on it. All he will put in it is soft coral.

Lot of softies aren't extermely joyed about MH, so he doesn't need them.
