I've tried to ID this on other boards and Wetwebmedia, but I can't ID this. There are four in my tank. Three less than 1/2 inch and one that's about 3/4 long. They typically come out late in the evening. The closest ID type I can come up with is Nudibranch, but these don't have the unique looking surface bumps. Are they snails without shells? They're black all over with a white stripe down the center top side. I have not seen underneath. They stay on the rocks. I'll try and get better pictures tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Hard to tell from the picture , but it looks like some kind of a limpet to me.

I had a difficult time seeing them in the picture, but from your description the scutus snail came to mind.

Check out this link and see if it matches what you have in your tank.

Those could very well be the scutus snails. They are known to breed in captivity occasionally. I would be very interested in buying some from you if you ever get babies. I even know someone who would be interested in buying your adults.

What is the adult size of your key hole limpets? I have a couple species that breed well, but they only reach about 1/4" in length as adults.

Brian

They are about 1/4" full size.

That's It!!

Thanks for the help!

Reefus: Great link with lots of info and picks. I didn't have a chance to go through everything though.

Melodyepta: That's it! I have 3 Scutus Snails (limpets). The link provides a great description. I was wondering why the white showed sometimes and not others. Now I know why.

:)
