I found a deal on one of the large Odyssea HOB refugium/skimmer set ups 24"Lx4"Wx14"T. I put about 2" of aragonite in it, chaeto (3 types...thanks Mihn), and am using a simple flourescent light over the top for now. I am using a MJ900 for flow to the unit but I can't seem to figure out how the skimmer is supposed to work. When using the airline for the MJ I get water flowing out of the line instead of air sucking in. I am also getting a lot of bubbles from the output side. Probably need to change the piping to go lower in the tank.

Any ideas on the skimmer issue? Is this enough filtration for 58 gallon tank?

With the skimmer you need either a venturi attachment or shove that airline into the intake. Also while you are there do the mesh mod to the impeller. This should get your skimmer foaming like crazy.

As for the bubble coming out of the fuge you will need a catch box on it.....most all HOB's will push microbubbles back into the tank so putting the catch box on the output will limit that. Also allowing it to break in will lessen it some too.

Google it and you will see....basically mesh over the impeller to help crush incoming bubbles into microbubbles for a more efficient skim.
