Marc said:That should be enough power. I have a 6250 myself, and it runs everything. The nice thing is that it lasts a long time on a tank full of gas.
You probably should buy and store gas somewhere safe because if it gets bad, where can you buy it then?
Chris, what is the brand of the generator you bought and where and the cost if you don't mindcrvz said:Thanks, Marc! You've got enough space to house us all when Dean decides to shoot up the ship channel, right?
I picked up a 5000watt generator today, so I hope I'll be alright, but I don't that I'll stick around if it gets close (I live too close to the bay).
Marc said:Last time we had a predicted storm heading our way, I had 10g of unleaded stored. I ended up using only 5. I was without power for 17 hours straight, and I didn't have to refill the generator.
For those of you looking for a generator, PepBoys has them advertised all the time for about $259.
so does the one you got can run the stuffs I mention (chiller, main pump, fridge?). If i'm going to buy one, id just rather go w/ one that can support at least those equipment.Marc said:The PepBoy generators aren't that large; not like the one I have. Mine came from Home Depot and cost $660. However, having some power is very handy for a number of reasons. A return pump and some fans care for the tank, you could plug in a laptop and find out what is going on news-wise as well as a clock radio, and a few simple lights to see.
For cooking, if your house is all electric like mine, you have the option of cooking on an outdoor grill or camping stove.

I'll be hauling 90% of my tank with me, if I'm told to evacuate and Dean comes toward Port A.
I plan to take all livestock, LR, equipment, ~ 1 gallon container of sand, the stand. I plan to leave just an empty tank.

I only have a 58, so what I plan on taking will fit in the truck. Unlike Galveston, everything is basically Houses on stilts. I hope it doesn't hit here or in Texas.
I wont really pay attention to the models yet, they have been pretty much all over the place.
