Tank : 55 gallon Fish with live rock
Filter: Internal wet dry with carbon (built out of acryllic and mounted on inside with Eheim pump (900 gph)

Inhabitants: 2 striped damsels / 1 domino damsel (1.5" - 2") 8 months; Recent 3" Rectangle Triggerfish

Triggerfish was kept for 5 days in a quarantine tank and showed no signs of any problems. Put him in the 55 gallon tank. For the first 3-4 days no problem.
Noticed yesterday that he was flashing on the side of the tank. Looks like a small white spot (like the end piece of a tooth pick only smaller)

Damsels show no sign of disease and never have. I lost a maroon clown about 3 months ago (had about a year) and could not keep a coral beauty after that.

Can ich be in the tank with three damsels but the fish show no signs of it?

If a hospital tank is needed ( I have a 30 gallon), what would you put in it? Would you treat with copper or hypo? If hypo, how do you control Ph? Wouldn't Ph increase with decrease in salinity?

Great fish don't want to lose him.

I freshwater dipped the rectangle trigger two days in a row for three minutes. Seems to have done the job so far as I have not seen him flashing against the side of the tank since the second dip.

I assume it must not have been ich.

5 days in a QT isn't enough to be on the save side.
I'll keep my fish atleast 2 weeks in solitaire QT if no sign of nothing they'll go in one of my 5' frag tank and I'll monitor them for 6 weeks more.
In that time frame I'll feed them a lot and make them get used to the food that I feed my fish in the DT.
If you suspect ICK just feed them good food soaked in some vitamins that will get them through it, note it will not kill your ICK in the tank, once you got ICK you'll have ICK as long you have fish in your DT.
Happy and stresless fish will fight off the Ich.

Seems like the triggerfish did not have ich as there is no sign of it. He also is not flashing after I dipped him in freshwater two days in a row. I am keeping an eye on him.

When I put him in the quarantine tank, the level of nitrite began to go up after a couple of days. I did a water change (40%) but still saw a tinge of nitrite. I had used water from the established tank and probably made a mistake by putting a live rock in the tank from the display tank. I have a HOB Octopus skimmer on the quarantine and a filter with carbon.

I guess the tank had not cycled. Do you have to keep a quarantine tank going all the time in order to use it?

Ok. Thanks for the information. Next time I need it, I will take more of the media out of the filter in the display tank and put it in the quarantine filter.
