Your post prompted us to switch today. I just looked on Power to choose and found a plan with Discount Power that offers an $85 credit for any usage over 1000Kwh.

It was the Green Prime Plus -24 but they also offer a 12 month as well. [emoji817] renewable as well for no additional cost.

Glad I can help save $$$ On the bill for more money to be spend on the tank lol

I used to have Reliant, but I found that they were scamming me on the "free nights and weekends" deal. They were using this super complicated billing breakdown that listed all the usage but had it priced in different ways and when it all totaled up after numerous calls to their billing dpt. I found that my original rate of 6.5 per Kw/h was actually 15.75 per Kw/h once you added in the Centerpoint delivery charges and everything so it completely negated the "free" portion of usage. When I switched from them to Spark my monthly bill went from averaging 230 a month to 95 in the summer months.

Yeah it was their super saver plan or something like that, and I have only ever seen it offered in late fall to warly winter. You can go to Powertochoose.org and look at all the available plans and providers that are available. It's sweet to have but I have to use at least 1Kw of power to get it. So I'm always at odds with myself over it. Should I conserve energy or go for broke to get the discount.

Thanks for the website! Much appreciated.
Reliant does have specials am I able to go directly to center point?

Ok, so I have to share this story since" the free nights and weekends" got mentioned:D.

I handle all the selecting plans for utilities and such for the house. My wife handles our laundry.

For well over 2 years she was washing and drying during night hours. I thought it odd but didnt want to tell her how to do her buisness:noidea:. She is a night owl to begin with.
So one day I decide to ask her why is she always doing the laundry at odd hours of the night:confused:. She says:boink: "havent you seen the comercials for free nights and weekends" ..... :doh:yeah, but were not on that plan, wash whenever you want.

Spark here. They had the best deal at the time for me. You have to do your homework. There are more tools out there than just power to choose. Knowing your esid # is also helpful especially if you want historical data on a home you're purchasing. As d2 said, read the fine print on these plans.

You can only get natural gas service directly from Centerpoint. They handle the transport, distribution and line service only for electrical. Basically they sell electrical services to the providers who then sell it to the end user. So depending on the negotiated rates the provider has with Centerpoint, you may or may not have to pay the Centerpoint line charges.

That doesn't sound right. You should have options to pick a different provider. I did a quick look on Power To Choose | Home and for Conroe zip 77302 just to see what it says and there's some 180+ different plans listed from multiple providers.

If you are in a Entergy service area the only option is Entergy. This is because they currently are an out of state provider (LA) and in order for a provider to be deregulated in Texas they need to have a generation source within the state. Don't quote me on that but this is what Entgery told me when we lived in the Woodlands.

For the company supplying power to the local grid yes, but being in Texas you should still have the ability to select the provider of these services. That's why I said when I looked at the Conroe area I saw that there were some 180+ separate service plans available with the parameters I selected, and of those someone may offer some sort of discounted rate similar to what has been discussed.

I agree. I just sigh until Entergy is deregulated.

Like others have said, it pays off to shop around and switch often.

My consumption varies significantly from summer to winter, from a high of almost 3700 kWh to as low as 1700 kWh in winter months.

The way the plans are designed is that they're usually attractive in a narrow band of consumption, such that if you purchase a plan optimized for a high consumption, then you're overpaying in the low consumption period and viceversa..

To get around this and have a year round optimized plan, I shop for 6-month plans and switch in October and April with the lowest cost plan for the seasonal consumption pattern. I've estimated that this saves me several thousand dollars a year...
