How do you deal with the stench from the skimmer? (1 Viewer)

Ever since I went to the Sapphire BC29 skimmer in my nano, it is pulling some nasty stuff that really smells terrible. And I can smell it walking in to the house. The only recourse I have is to empty the collection cup every day or other day(Barely fill the bottom with the nasty stuff)


How do you guys deal with that kind of stuff?

i had a make shift carbon sock on my old setup with a PM skimmer collection cup not too sure what you can do with the sapphire.

Empty it every day. Then wash the collection cup often.

I would reach out to Kyle over at SA and see what advice he has to offer. Let us know what you find, I have one of these skimmers also.

The skimmer is working great, too good maybe.

add less then 1/2 a cap full of bleach to the cup make sure not to get any in the tank your liquids will turn clear and you will not be able to see the dark green tea water no more but atleast the smell will be gone HOPE THIS HELPS it is what i do

Talking to Kyle is really your best bet. Shoot him a PM and he usually gets right to you unless he is out of town.
I will be visiting him in his shop tomorrow.
I will mention it to him. I know that he prefers that we run a wetter skimmate than most of us like to see.
Thereby being more dilute the smell would be less.
I empty my skimmer every other day and wipe out the chimney in the cup where the bubbles climb. I have been told that the cleaner that stays the better the skimming. Due to the bubbles meeting with less resistance.

That is a true statement hence the reasoning for the wetter skim...cleaner pipes!

just dump it regularly.

put some smell good into the tank so when the skimmer skims it out it will also have the fragrance.
