Once you make it how much do you dose? Is ther a rule of thumb on how much you dose or do you go by how much coral you have in your tank?

The phyto you make at home won't be as concentrated as DT's so you can feed more. Some people feed 1/2 a cup to a cup 2 to 3 times a week. You will want to take into account how many critters you have that will utilize the phyto. If you have a heavily stocked tank of filter feeders (clams etc) then you can feed a little heavier. Best thing to do is to feed a small amount at first and see how your animals react. Then you can always feed heavier. I have a thread in the propagation/breeding forum about phyto. I am going to try to set up a culture next week hopefully :) Best thing to do is read the articles about phyto out there and then go from there :)

I raise phyto for my tank. I feed my 180 gallon tank 1 cup every other day. It is the greatest stuff in the world for growing pods. I have a mandarin dragon that went from poor to fat as a tick by eating the hoard of pads that this stuff grows. Even with the mandarin, my tank is full of pods. It's great fun to watch them with a flashlight after the lights are out.

Yeah Trey, that's right. In my 55 I have a couple of damsles and a snowflake eel in it. It is FULL of critters and neat for the kids to watch at night with the lights off and a flashlight that I keep by the tank. I am wanting to use that water and whatever I can salvage from there to use in my new 110 that I am just starting. The eel will have to go :(

Wow- cool a new forum on just my interests.
I used to raise lots and lots of phytos, now I don't...anyway, here is an article that everyone seems to like on culturing phytos. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=eb9c859dc122fcd28e769e3049341634&threadid=135137 As brandon mentions the key w/ feeding your tank is to slowly build up the sandbed/live rock infauna populations, so feed a little at first then buildu over a few week period. You notice an increase in pods, mysids, and feather worms. Also if you feed routinely you'll also see a grea side effects, your corals will be happier
