In terms of human food i was wondering if the same applies to fish food and its life when not frozen anymore. I make up frozen cubes in a condiment squirt bottle with ro/di water and it typically feeds my fish for a little more than a week before i make up some more. my fish are healthy and don't show signs of negative effects but was wondering what you guys think. how long should i keep the made up food/ro water before i should dump it. id hate to go one day too many and then have to pay for it. thanks for the input.

Hi, julio
IMO, I think it depends on what you put into your frozen cubes. Ask yourself this, "would I eat it if it were human food?"

good luck,
Steve

I do the exact same thing. I make a smoothie of various frozen foods, reef powder food, and ro/di water on sundays. It usually lasts about a week. I don't have any issues feeding it to my fish.

That may not be the best standard. I had a friend that once took his sashimi leftovers home and ate them a while later. I don't ever remember what became of it though. But then again, this was college and he was washing it down with a Keystone Light.

But in all seriousness, I'm not sure if human standards of what's safe to eat applies to fish. I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just saying that I have no idea.

I go about 3-4 days max. Once I start seeing that bacterial film on the top is when I toss it.

It's just whatever your comfort level with it. To me, it's not worth it. If I kill any of my pricey fish by feeding week old food, I'd never forgive myself... well, any fish really. That being said, I'd doubt they'd die but I don't want to test that theory.
