I am about to add purigen in a media bag to my 24g tank. The 250ml bottle says it will treat up to 250 gallons fo 6 months. Logic would tell me I don't need to put the entire amount in the bag, but logic has failed me in this hobby before. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you already buy the bottle? If so just use it all. That stuff lasts forever since all you have to do is wash it in clorox to clean it for endless uses. Using to much will not hurt your tank at all.

If you have not bought it, then just by the 100ml bottle for about 8 bucks and use it all.

When mine turns dark purplish, I just soak it in clorox for a few hours, rinse it under tap water for a few minutes, let it dry out in the sun for a few days and it is good to go again.

I use the pre-bagged stuff from Drsfostersmith.com 3-pk of the 100ml stuff for $18

I use it only for it's water polishing capabilities and the nitrate thing I don't rely on and will never rely on anything other then water changes for this. It does do a decent job of removing impurities from the water though.
