My GS Maroons started laying eggs about two months ago I guess, It seems like they lay eggs every other week now. Maybe I need to actually look at a calendar and check that.

Can anyone tell me what the normal frequency of laying eggs is?

They just layed some today in a little bit different spot than they had been.
Much more visible to me.

Mine have been laying eggs consistently year round since March of '03 abut every other week....sometimes sooner than that.

Ok, I was under the impression once a month was normal so was wondering why they were spawning more often. You've put my mind at ease.

Karen,

Hey...sorry haven't talked to anyone much lately...had a lot of heartache to get over after all my fishes had died.....well, except for the Maroons of course.

But anyway, now that you mention it, they have a batch going right now, and they actually laid them on a removable piece of barnacle shell that I could actually get to you....if you want to try and raise them before they hatch....or I could see if I can catch them this time and get them to you...again. I just don't know if I will be around (or awake) when they hatch.

Also, you mentioned last time your concern of raising maroons first, since you noted they are some of the most difficult to raise. But if you are ready to try...we can try.

Oh, definitely it would be better to transfer eggs than to try and catch and transfer the fry. The eggs are not near as sensitive to changes, either. Very cool. We need to hook up. When were the eggs last laid? Man, I guess I should get my setup back out and start overfeeding the rotifers :) And if you have another piece of barnacle or rock or something to put in that one's place, we could keep the cycle going.

Karen,

Okay, they were laid a few days ago. They are not ready to hatch yet, but they are silvery now. I give it a few more days...Sorry I didn't count, since I don't raise them I didn't pay much attention.

The only thing about replacing the barnacle shell - no problem, and I will give it a try....but these maroons - darn them - is they spawn in a new spot EVERY time...I mean, they will go back to an old spot a few spawnings later, but they never spawn over the same place in a row...quirky and picky they are. :) But maybe if I put in a new shell, they might like it. It's just that these guys just don't seem to follow the pattern of picking a flat smooth surface. I tried that many times, and they ignored the flat piece. But I will try again.

Karen, also just want to say thanks for being patient w/ me these past couple months...I just had to separate myself until I started healing again....didn't mean to alienate you or ignore you, by the way.

So, yeah, if you want to start your rotifer stuff and all, I will watch the eggs, and I will go get another couple smooth shell thingies and see if they like those....If you think you'll be ready in the next couple days, I can plan to meet you...

Let me know what you think.

Kim :)

Stefanie,

Thanks. And thanks again to you and Nathan for being there for me when I needed the help. What did survive was due to you guys' help: the Red Coris Wrasse and the 2 Maroon clowns, I still have them. I did finally start to add a few more fishes. They are doing fine. The tank looks alive again, but it is time for another cleaning already.

Thanks for asking.

pygmyangel,

I also want to welcome you back :) Glad you didn't give in to tearing everything down. Good luck on the new attempt.

I'll be too busy to help out in the breeding attempts until I'm done with full time school, but keep me informed!

B.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the encouragement, and if Karen and I are successful, we'll definitely let you know. :)
