How did you check for leaks? It sounds like there's a leak somewhere and it's sucking in air (aka venturi).

Im with James, theres gotta be a leak. You never see any salt creep on the top of venturi lines either due to the constant suction. Id say just re dope the joints and the suction should pull the dope into the leak, just as it does the air.

u think if i use that aquamend and mold it around all the connections that should work? or could there be a problem with the pump itself?

You can also spread vaseline around the pipe connections one at a time , when it stops youll know which connection to redo.

Also check the anti siphon hole on your return if u have one. Sometimes if the pump is strong enough it can cause bubbles through that hole.

3 other places I've found micro bubble issues.

  1. To much speed through the sump to the return was pulling micro bubbles from the skimmer.
  2. Velocity through elbows and the chiller were causing the water to squeak out micro bubbles.
  3. With a new skimmer or right after a water change I will sometimes see micro bubbles which clears up on its own after a week or so.

I had micro bubbles and found that the screws were loose on my pump motor and the air was being sucked in there... I took the pump apart and resealed it..... tried everything before and the last thing I could check was the pump... and sure enuf.. that was the problem.. zero micro bubbles now..

ok so what i did so far was where water return to the tank, i put a valve there and reduced the pressure of water comin back into the tank and the micro bubbles are hardly noticable now. Is it cause the pump is too strong for the amount of water its sucking in?
