Curious if anyone has any experience with these?

My garage will be my fish room and I mentioned to my builder that the I expect humidity to build up in the garage and he said to just add an exhaust fan and a dehumidifier. Well I was looking at water heaters and ran across these hybrid water heaters. Basically they are a normal electric water heater but they have an air conditioner on top as well. The AC is reversed so the heat goes inside the tank and cool air blown out! And it also dehumidifies the air as well. Since the water heater will be in the garage it should AC the garage as well as dehumidify it. These water heaters are over twice as efficient as a normal electric water heater so it pays for itself in 2 years PLUS San Bernard Electric is giving rebates for these water heaters as well.

We are building in the country so propane would be the only other option. Still have 4-5 months left....it is a huge test in patience.

Never even seen these before. My sump and frag tank are in the garage. I haven't noticed any more humidity than normal. I usually have the sump closed off though plus my chiller puts out a lot of hot air. I have thought about using an exhaust fan out of the garage but at this time it really hasn't bothered me.

i have a fish room in the garage and it is air conditioned. I would definitely use an exhaust fan (and plan on adding one soon). All of my metal tools that aren't chromed or stainless are beginning to rust out in the garage (connected to fish room).

yeah I have close to 300g of tanks in the fish room. 3 are 30x50x12" and one is 24x48x10. Plus a couple of 40g cubish tanks and a 55g. So lots of moisture.

Thats pretty cool. Our sun room has a heat pump and definitely in the winter when its heating that heat exchanger outside puts out some wicked cold air (im sure some of that is due to wind chill).

So thats a really unique idea.

I think I would still run ventilation and possibly a dehumidifier. I can see it chilling the air, but not sure about how efficient it will be at dehumidification (kind of depends on how long it runs when it is on).

Never heard of one of those, but it sounds awesome! I have a fish room and you absolutely want a solid way to export humidity. Luckily, I can suck mine out of the isolated room, otherwise, what Steve said is true. Your tools are going to rust pretty quickly

Tools in the garage wont be an issue....I didn't mention we built a 30x40 metal building for my shop. It's where all our house stuff is being stored while the house is being finished. The garage on the house will store my wife's car and be a big fish room. I try very hard not to think about it because it still feels so very far away. I am dying to get my rocks started up again but cannot run electric to the shop until the septic system is in. I could run an electric cord but dont want it to accidentally get unplugged by the builders. So I try to be patient and wait.

Did I mention that this waiting thing sucks?!?!? Not sure if Reef Currents is going to be good for me or bad.... :)
