Looks like hydroids to me. They come in various "flavors". They are like tiny anemones and you can read all about them on www.seahorse.org. They are the scourge of dwarf seahorses.

If i take the rock out and chizzel off the part with them on it will it get rid of them? Or would I be better off just scraping the rock since it will be in my dwarf sea horse tank.

They are pretty easy to scrape off just remember they do sting on tender parts. I have a good "rash" on my under arm right now.

Howed they get under your arm? 8O

I have read somewhere that hydroids could be on the rock but so small you cant even see then and when you feed bbs to the tnak they will grow like crazy.. i hope this is the only colony...

Reached over a pile of live rock cleaning the back glass on a clients tank. The sting is much like that of a aptasia.

JMO but I'd read the info on seahorse.org. Chances of completely ridding yourself of them that way is unlikely. There is a medication you can get that will get rid of them, but I can't remember the name of it right now.

Honestly, I don't know much about seahorses, but over at that bulletin board the prevailing thought is OH MY GOD HYDROIDS ARE EVERYWHERE...AND THEY WILL KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP...

Sheesh, how many of us really have hydroids in our tanks? The overwhelming opinion over there is also not to use any live and or live rock in their tiny little seahorse tanks that they pack with tons of brine shrimp. It's pretty sad.

Sorry, end of rant. I just really think that site has some screwed up people handing out advice.
