Came back from being gone for a week and noticed a dark spot on the rock. My brain said cyano algea but I've never encountered it before so I could be mistaken.

Looks like cyano to me... Believe me, I'm becoming an expert on cyano.... Unfortunately ;-)

UP your water change schedule, maybe some sort of phosphate removal regimen, not carbon, you'll waste your time with that, maybe rowaphos, phosguard or something similar. Also look at repointing your pumps towards any dead spots or fresh cyano growths

some phosphate media like rowaphos will actually increase or add cyano.
i used chemi-clean and it worked great, that or red slime x

what you need to do is increase your flow and figure out whats feeding it.

No clue what's feeding it. I only feed once a week. I have started Feeding with silversides for my anemone. I've since moved a power head to try and get more flow to that spot. That bringing said, I'll pick up something when I get back into Houston this weekend.
