I was so proud of myself. Cheato had grown to the point it filled the entire section of the refugium. I decided to "harvest" some of it, but now I have just a few strands scattered around. Did I take out too much? I've ordered a ball from Reef Cleaners, so I guess I will try again. BTW, my nitrates are showing a 2 on the Red Sea test. Phosphate is .03 on Salifert. I am currently battling some cyano (I think) that popped up this week. However, I think my tank/dog sitter may have been a little generous with the selcon over the weekend.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Nutrients look good to me. That's probably why your chaeto is dying off. No food for it to eat.

Your cyano is probably not related to your nutrients and is hard to get rid of once you get it. I had some recently and had to resort to chemi clean or whatever its called. Knocked it out though.

I did something similar where I trimmed and gave away too much. And what I had left couldn’t outcompete some nuisance algae and ended up losing all the Chaeto. Still trying to reseed myself now as well.
