This is the latest I got from IceCap on ReefCentral:

Repair charges for out of warranty ballasts are a flat rate of $65.00. Warranty is 3 years from purchase date. You can pay by CC after we get it repaired. You can call to check on it mid week or when we get it done we will call you.

Is this worth it or should I just buy another new ballast? When you hear a ballast pop and smoke comes from it I just dont think it can be repaired. I just dont want to end up paying 65.00 for repair charges and they say they cant fix it and then I have to pay 160.00 for a new one. Any suggestions?

I would think they replace the entire insides. For $ 65.00 it would be a good deal.
