I blame the kole yellow eye tang. That's right, I said it. He's new and was spot free when I got him and for 1.5 weeks. Showed signs yesterday then foxface and the small B&W oscellaris have shown spots. I''m fairly certain that all the fish will need treatment whether they show symptoms or not. It's making me sadder writing this. I have a 10 gallon QT cycled but too small for the amount of fish I have. Wondering if anyone can help? I can put the small fish in my QT but the tang and foxface may have to go somewhere else for fear of not further stressing them. I know, I know, I should have QT the fish but the QT wasn't ready when he came home and I took the ill fated plunge. I'll also entertain selling the tang and one spot foxface. Now, how to catch that dern tang...

I'll also be happy to accept any advice and/or guidance.

I'd like to cure the fish and cure the DT. I think the best method for that is time without a host? So sad to even consider.........

Thanks in advance!

Go to Petco and buy two 20/L's. The $/gallon is on till this Saturday.

Get the fish out and do tank transfer method. Sterilize all equipment and tank between transfers with bleach for at least 30 minutes.

If fish go in on Monday, transfer on Thursday, then Sunday, then Wednesday, then Saturday. Your done that Saturday.

DT needs to sit fallow for 72 days. Fallow=fishless...

Good luck.

Best thing to do is what Reefahholic suggested, Tank Transfer Method. You'll have to find a way to get all of your fish out of your DT and put them into a new uninfected tank. I don't suggest using your current QT because as you said it's already cycled, no reason to contaminate it with ich. A 20 long would be ok, but if you're worried about your fish then try to get two bigger ones (make sure to buy long tanks rather than tall).

Tank transfer method is easy but a pain in the *********, so to lessen the amount of work you want to keep everything as simple as possible. Only things you'll need is a tank, a heater, an air pump, air tubes, air stones, thermometer, pvc pipes for fish to hide in, and of course your saltwater. Having 2 sets of everything helps a lot!

Set your new tank up and make sure that the temp and salinity level match your DT. You should also make sure that the new saltwater has been aerated for at least 24 hours, you wouldn't want to lose any fish to new tank syndrome.

If you're having trouble catching your fish, try draining your DT to where the top of the fish is right below the water line, this works well for me. Try not to use a net, best to buy some type of colander, I used a breeder box with slits in it so the water drains out when transferring which is helpful during TTM. Try your best to do your transfers in the morning. The parasites fall off the fish during dark hours.

If you're worried about ammonia don't be, the fish won't be in there long enough for ammonia to creep up. If you’re still worried you can always buy a Seachem ammonia badge to observe the ammonia levels and buy some Seachem Prime to detoxify the ammonia if it ever creeps up. With TTM, the fish shouldn’t be in the tank longer than 72 hrs so like I said ammonia levels should not be a worry.

If you have 2 sets of everything set up your second tank 24 hours before you have to do your second transfer. Like I said above, match salinity, temp, and make sure your water is aerated.

To do your second transfer, do the same as I mentioned above on catching your fish. Here is where the colander comes into play. You want to try to transfer as little water as possible, so use the colander to drain most of the water out.

Once all fish are out of the first tank, drain the rest of the water so that the tank is empty. Throw away the air stone that you were using but keep the rest. Here’s the pain in the ********* part. You’ll need to sterilize all equipment, except the air pump. Use bleach like Reefahholic suggested, I use 1 part per 20. I let it sit in bleach water for about 30 minutes and then rinse everything off. Once you’ve rinsed everything off you’ll want to let everything air dry. You’ll have to attach the air tube back onto the air pump for it to dry. Once air dried start the process all over for the third transfer.

Your last transfer will be to your QT or whatever tank you’ll use to hold your fish while your display tank is fallow. If you decide to put your fish in a new tank rather than your QT make sure to buy a seachem ammonia badge and some bacteria in a bottle like seachem’s stability. You’ll need to populate the bacteria in your holding tank and bacteria in a bottle will help. If you notice ammonia creeping up do some water changes.

While your DT is fallow make sure to ghost feed.

Take advantage of this Petco sale before it's too late. I hope this helps and your livestock makes it.

P.S. Make sure not to cross contaminate any equipment.

I'm in Pearland. I have 2 20L tanks for TTM and a cycled 40B that can house them while your DT sits fallow. I also have a trap that you can use to catch them. But as others said, you can drain the tank down and catch them easily. If you have ich, you can't afford to waste a lot of time trying to catch them with a trap. If you want to catch them and bring them up to Pearland, I will TTM them for you and host them in my 40B until your DT is ready. If you want to throw me a few bucks for salt, I will provide the water and do everything for you. Let me know. PM me and I will send back my cell. James

webster1-4,

That is a very kind thing for you to offer and only wished that the world, in general, showed such selfless generosity. I'm not sure if I can swing that just yet because of the lack of time that I have to empty the tank; however, I did catch the foxface and tang, they're in the QT as I type. They were the only two fish showing signs of the parasite although I know that an infection is immanent for the others. The clown was a false alarm. I will certainly send you a PM if only to thank you personally. I did try and catch the others but the cardinal and lawnmower blennie were impossible to catch because of their small size and ability to get in the rock crevices. I'll have to get a couple of 30 gallon containers. If emptied, would I put the water back in?

If you have a lot of rock in the tank and you want to catch the fish easier...

After you drain the tank down a little bit, dig a hole in the sand in one corner of the tank.
Then continue to drain the tank down. The fish will circle the tank and come out of the rocks as the water drops.
When they get to the big hole, they will all congregate there. Grab ur net and own them. :)

Thanks, Reefahholic. Will the coral be adversely affected by being out of the water for so long? I know my mushrooms suffered once when I did a water change which exposed them to air. They eventually made it back to normal, but it took them a week to ten days. I also have a RBTA.

Mainly soft like toadstool, finger leathers, mushrooms, zoas. I can move any LPS not on already on the bottom down.
