This is a tiny fish I captured last week on the Texas City Dike.
I thought is was be a "Plainfin Midshipman." Growing up I always called them dog fish. They reach about 6-8" long.
They remind me of a toadfish, but they have smooth skin and bright yellow belly.
Looking closer, I don't think the fins are right. Hummmmmm....

I figured out what i was looking at. Upside down and backwards lol. It honestly looks like a type of grouper. The round tail and arched tail fin look very similar. Plus eyes being close to top of head like they are.

The skilletfish, (Gobiesox strumosus), is a member of the family Gobiesocidae, composed of clingfishes. These are mainly marine, tropical and temperate fishes characterized by a powerful sucking disk on the underside of the forebody.

Description
The skilletfish has a frying pan-shaped body which can grow to about 3 inches in length. The body is compressed dorsoventrally with the head being wider than the body. Tiny eyes are located on top of the head. The fish also has strong teeth and fleshy lips. Color varies from a pale gray to dark brown with a mottled pattern.
