Hi everyone. I created and account here a couple of years in anticipation of a move from Dallas to the Kemah area. At the time I was taking down a tank and had planned on setting up another tank after getting settled in a new house. I was somewhat active in the DFWMAS club and in the Atlanta Reef club when I lived in GA. When we moved down here ended up renting a house for a while until we bought the house we are currently in.

I have had many tanks over they years big/small, fish only to full reefs so I am not new to the hobby but probably behind on the latest equipment available. The past few tanks I have had, I built at least some of my equipment. I do have a full cnc router so I have the ability to make this that a lot of people cannot.

I have not had a tank since moving from Dallas. We bought the house we are in back in April and now have the bug again to set up a tank. My wife is very supportive of this hobby so I am very lucky there. I am actually trying to plan this new tank out completely before I buy anything.

I loved my last tank and it was a 72x24x36 that was setup as a mixed reef, mostly LPS, soft coral and lots of Tangs. I am planning something similar but with at least 96 long. I am limited to 32 inches through the door so the tank is probably going to be 30 wide and 36 tall. I will probably build the skimmer, the sump and anything else I have the ability to do. I am going to have the tank built by someone else. I am going to use DC pumps for everything in an attempt to keep it as quiet as possible.

I will share more as I get farther along.

Welcome, Brett! I'm similar to you in that I build everything I can. I was actually looking to get a Instructable X-carve cbc router soon. What kind do you have?

I have a CNCRP60120 using a water cooled spindle and vacuum table. I have the ability to cut 5ft x13ft but I currently have it configured with a max cutting area of 4x8. I use mainly to cut wood but I have used it to cut acrylic, HDPE/starboard and different types of foam. I have built a lot of XL skimmers with 12 inch bodies, sumps and I have built several tanks.

Very nice! I'm gonna have to pick your brain over the cnc router. I had a laser cutter but I've never worked with a router.
