i got a lot of new liverock in about 2 months ago, but i cant seem to get rid of all the stuff off the bottom... no matter how often i vaccume it out, it goes into the water as i vaccume and then settles back down after about 24 hours.... in other words i cant keep the tank clean and the detritus wont go away...

so can i leave a bit under the sand bed i wanna put in?

Have patience.

I wouldn't put a sand bed over the top of a detritus bed. You'd create a nutrient sink that will come back to haunt you - algae bloom. If it were me, I'd just keep blowing off the rocks and siphoning out the debris. It may take a while longer.

Good luck,
Steve

Put a filter sock in the sump on the drain line, it will help catch detritus while suspended in the tank.
