Is it just me or are there a lot of used APEX systems on the market? (1 Viewer)

As I stated in the title there seems like a lot of the Apex systems are showing up online. Is this a sign of poor quality control or just customer confidence in the system? I get it we invest thousands of dollars in our systems to have the assurance that when you are not there you will be safe. So what are your thoughts?

Thanks

I bought into the complete Apex universe as I wanted to try the whole controller thing. I bought about $1200 worth. I've sold a portion of it and I'm about to sell the rest for very cheap as I have been using it for about a year and I basically just use it as computer controlled on/off switches. It does work (for some things I've experimented with) but, I feel it's just so cheap feeling like a child's toy and the physical design of everything is just awkward and clunky. I had to build a controller cabinet in a closet just to organize it all.

To me, it's just not worth it as it is just something else to maintain (i.e. Trident, reagents, probes, etc.) that i really don't use or see the benefit, for my situation anyway. And, the added cluster of extra wires just drives me nuts. I can't say I am confident or not, I just don't use it for it's full potential so I have no idea in reliability. Not for my style of reefing I suppose.

Lots of the newer versions been having issues. I dont seem to have any problems. But buyer 2nd hand is risky on high end electronics. Like I bought a DOS pump from a member and got home to find out it was built in 2018. Went to run it and it needs new pump heads as it just pulls air bubbles.

One of the best investment in the hobby especailly if you are traveling...I ran full apex for a few years no issues with head unit or trident. Trident maintenance is a breeze if you keep up with it.
Less and less people in the hobby nowadays that's why so many for sale. I'm selling an Apex Jr just becasue I want to try something new/different.

Like RR-Man said, I travel a lot & its very handy. Plus some of the extra programming I can do for lights, ATO, pumps etc is very handy. Necessary, no, but like many things in life, it just makes things a little easier.

I’ve been hearing a lot of bad reports about Apex lately. Apparently the newer models are getting fried with power surge’s, and there’s been many other events. Not sure if they changed the build quality or what.

I’d go Hydros if you’re looking for a controller. A friend of mine gave me his old one and it’s been solid and they’re easy to setup and run. It automatically sets up email and text alerts much easier than my old apex. You can also tell it to alert at different levels of severity like yellow, orange, and red. With each progressing in stronger notifications.
