is this algae good or bad (1 Viewer)

I have been trying to get a photo of this algae for a while but I only have a cell phone camera so it was hard toget with my lights on but I had a good idea to try with the lights off. this algae is red and glows bright red with my blue LEDs on, it looks almost like a scotch Brite pad or Brillo pad. I want to know if anyone knows what it is and if it is bad.

Can't tell for sure, but odds are its on the bad end of the algae spectrum. Can you pull some pieces out, put them in a white container and take a macro pic with your phone? It would help with an id.

It depends on what kind it is.. Some of the red algae are good, few examples on ebay under algae.algae in Coral & Live Rock | eBay I think a great look in a reef tank.. jmo
