i bought the reefangel cables a while back and did some simple rewiring. My apex controller does both of my pumps just fine. pretty nice setup with ever changing wave patterns. nice flow w/ no dead spots.

I am thinking about doing this, can you adjust the actual speed of the pumps with the apex? or would you still have to use a variable power supply?

U use the apex profiles and configure it by percent power. 30%-100%

not to intimidate you, i really do like to tinker when it comes to these things. but here's my configuration:

Left Pump |||||| Right Pump
---------------- |||||| ----------------
Fallback ON |||||| Fallback ON
Set OFF |||||| Set OFF
If Time 00:00 to 02:00 Then CrestM |||||| If Time 00:00 to 02:00 Then LowF
If Time 02:00 to 04:00 Then 4Sec |||||| If Time 02:00 to 04:00 Then 5Sec
If Time 04:00 to 06:00 Then WaveM |||||| If Time 04:00 to 06:00 Then WaveF
If Time 06:00 to 08:31 Then ON |||||| If Time 06:00 to 08:31 Then LowF
If Time 08:31 to 08:33 Then FeedP |||||| If Time 08:31 to 08:33 Then FeedP
If Time 08:33 to 11:01 Then WaveM |||||| If Time 08:33 to 11:01 Then WaveM
If Time 11:01 to 11:03 Then FeedP |||||| If Time 11:01 to 11:03 Then FeedP
If Time 11:03 to 12:56 Then CrestM |||||| If Time 11:03 to 12:56 Then CrestF
If Time 12:56 to 12:58 Then FeedP |||||| If Time 12:56 to 12:58 Then FeedP
If Time 12:58 to 15:30 Then ON |||||| If Time 12:58 to 15:31 Then ON
If Time 15:31 to 15:33 Then FeedP |||||| If Time 15:31 to 15:33 Then FeedP
If Time 15:33 to 17:00 Then WaveF |||||| If Time 15:33 to 17:00 Then WaveM
If Time 17:00 to 18:30 Then CrestM |||||| If Time 17:00 to 18:30 Then CrestM
If Time 18:30 to 20:00 Then WaveM |||||| If Time 18:30 to 20:00 Then WaveF
If Time 20:00 to 21:30 Then 5Sec |||||| If Time 20:00 to 21:30 Then 4Sec
If Time 21:30 to 24:00 Then LowM |||||| If Time 21:30 to 24:00 Then CrestF

The notation of M/F denotes Male/Female for whether it starts strong, then drops low, or low then strong
Wave is configured for on 8sec, off 4 sec(no ramping at all), from 0%->100%
Crest is on 5, off 1 sec. ramping from 60%-100%
Low is on 5, off 5. ramping from 25-40
Xsec is basically on X seconds, off 3 seconds, ramping from 35-100
Feed denotes 20% the whole time. this is when my autofeeder turns on to feed pellets 4 times a day

my goal was to have different patterns hit throughout the day constantly. and the gaps of almost no flow are intentional.

How long have you had the pumps running on this configuration? Any degradation in pump performance that you have observed and if so do you think its related to profile or just pump wear/tear?

not that i can tell, I dose vodka, so my tank historically has small remnants of cyano at all times in dead spots. I've been running this configuration since the 1st group buy. I've never actually used the controllers that came with it at all. So far the pumps seem great, as a safety precaution and to ease maintenance, I have 2 spare wp40's sitting in a closet. I've yet to maintenance them, but so far so good. Coralline covers the pumps now, i'll need to run a pump in some vinegar soon, and will wire up the new pumps to see if there's any real degradation.

Since adding these pumps, no more cyano. These 2 pumps replaced a pair of koralia magnum 7's, which have quite a bit of flow as well.

yup. the pumps aren't exactly small, and putting up with 2 is more than I'd like to see personally. I'm not really a believer in blasting your corals full blast either, as most lps look alot better in medium flow. Prior to the wp40's, i was having cyano in dead spots between rocks, and a little bit of algae on the sand as well. Nowadays my tanks is pretty much algae free (with exception to the coraline like stuff on my glass). just wish i could say the same for majano and aptasia.

Can you program hydor K's with the Apex to create a wave since they don't have "soft start?" Or would it tear them up?

I know the Vortech's have soft start, but the other day I saw a youtube video of a guy that programed some HKE'S and made a wave.

Ok, after going to the link above, I am really confused.

I just received two W25's last week for my 125g Reef.

I see where there is an upgrade for those who already have the power heads and wave makers.

What I can't figure out is what that upgrade is and how much. Apparently the upgrade is at a discounted price, though I don't see a price.

So for $35 u get a new power adapter along with the controller to be able to control 2 pumps and supposedly it has new functions and gives the pump more power as well and they can be synced/anti synced.

It looks like just the controller is $20 if you already have their power supply (not sure why you would have it...)

If you are already wp pump/FS owner, you can order here :

1) Controller Only (Not include Power Supply) NO Warraty if you operation a orginial Power supply! It's will BURN!!!!. You MUST HAVE A 12 24V Powr Supply(Single Type) or (Twins Type), beware to Order!

2) Controller with 15V to 24V Twins Power supply (For wp40/wp25/wp10/fs14000)

3) Controller with Standard Power supply (For wp40/wp25/wp10/fs14000) Cannot be Adjustable

4) Controller with 6A Power supply (For WP60/FS14000/wp40/wp25/wp10)

So it sounds like you would want #2 (+$35) or #4 (+$65) unless you already had the fish street 12-24v power supply. the upgrade is the power supply...
