This guy ended up in the bucket a few months ago while I was out collecting Porcelain Crabs on the Dike. He was about the size of a fingernail.

Perfect example of having to know what species one collects. Keeps bad things from going into your Reef Tank.

I knew what he was and put him in the 29g non reef tank. Fed him and he grew like a weed. He is now about the size of a tennis ball and strong like bull. lol!

We named him Brutus.

Went home at lunch today and Brutus had torn apart and was eating our Green Brittle Star.

We have had that star for over 5 years and it was huge at a foot across.

This now confirms my suspicions that Brutus took down and devoured the Mantis Shrimp which was at least 7 inches long in that tank. It was a Spearer we had collected back in October at San Luis Pass. It had molted twice and was growing real fast.

It had a burrow on one side of the tank and it looked as if Brutus tore it out of there. I saw that he had what was left of the Mantis over in his burrow. Once done, we never saw a piece of that Mantis, no shell or nothing.

Wonder how long before he kills the large Dike hermit to eat.

We feed Brutus everyday, guess it wasn't enough.

We will keep him though and on top of hand feeding him, I'll go down to Boyd's Bait Camp and net some by catch fish from the shrimp tanks for him to grab and eat.

Those tanks also have Mantis Shrimp in them, so I'll throw a few in there for him also.

I'll post up a video when I get home of him wanting food and feeding him. When you get near the tank and he sees you, he waves his arm at you. lol!

Not a lot of us old Marshians left. lol! Board is slow and empty these days, everyone must be hanging somewhere else I guess. I haven't been here myself, but I still maintain a membership.

Here is the video of feeding the crab.

Brutus is huge!

I've been trying to get this guy out of my tank for months. Not nearly as big as your crab but his body alone is about the size of a silver dollar. I hardly ever see him, that's the problem.

Start feeding him with a stick to teach him where the food is coming from.

He should then start coming out when he sees you and want to be fed.

Once he is comfortable with you, you can try to catch him, but from my experience, it is best to use a pointed stick and spear him crushing him.

Once these guys grow bigger, they can be very destructive.
