Need some help, I got a mushroom leather from frag exchange that was attached to a plug with some 1/8" wide plastic "stuff". It wasn't really happy with it and always seemed to be looking for a way off.

Today it found it's way off literally splitting itself at the base leaving the plug and the plastic behind. The tissue seems gritty and flaking off the bottom. Is there anything I should/can do? Should I cut off some of the tissue and try sticking it to a rock? Please give me some advise.

Kras if you try to glue it, it will most likely slime it off, leathers are tough like that. I would recommend rubberbanding it down to some live rock. Within a few weeks it will be stuck well and you can leave it.

Yes but do I need to cut back some of the tissue? I have never fraged a leather so I'm not sure whether it's supposed to "gritty" or not.

gritty is fine, the leather is smarter than both of us, it didnt like its home so it moved and now give it a good home and it will reconnect. I had this happen to a leather and i didnt like the rubber band but it did do the trick and now its awesome.

Leathers almost always disconnect from glue.

Like cstewart79 said use a rubber band. The trick is to go around it loosely so as to not make the leather mad. If it is too tight for the leather it will cause it to split and come off.

Some will run a toothpick through it, and I have done this also in the past. Again, just make sure the rubber band holding the toothpick down is not tight enough to cause the leather to split off the toothpick.
