I had Dennis order me one and made a point of being at the store to pick it up as soon as he had it, so it was still in the shipping bag and went to my tank so it was only acclimated once. I read all about these guys, everything I could find. Basically I decided I wanted one badly enough to gamble on it. I lost. It was dead the morning after I put it in the tank. I didn't see it all evening, then it must have just come out of the sand or rocks to die because when I found him, the crabs hadn't even gotten to him yet. It had to be the shipping. I got a pink spotted goby at the same time and a pistol shrimp and they're both doing great in my tank, along with everything else. I'm still bummed about that fish. I hope you have better luck! I have read that if you can find one locally, that has been in the store for a while and is already eating and acclimated to tank life, you will have better luck.

I picked up mine from James at GL Aquatics. I actually bought two with the hopes that one of them made it. It was a good gamble because one passed away in the middle of the night. The other one spent 3 days in the sand and then only came out for 4 hours and then back to the sand. It took about 2 weeks before he spent most of the day out and about. Mine eats PE mysis and loves the new Marine fusion from H2O life. Here is a pic of mine.

Got mine from Petco in the woodlands, many people cringe at the thought of buying from petco, but the majority of the fish from petco are from ORA or similar suppliers and are of very good quality.

What type of leopard wrasse are you looking for? If it's the M. mealgris (sp???) like in the photos above then these are the "most hardy." That's a relative term because as you can see they only survive about 50% of the time :-( Poor guys.

The other species of leopard wrasses to even worse. I have seen the geoffryi while diving in Hawaii and they appear at the stores from time to time but as far as I know they have a 0% success rate :-(!!!!!!!!

Cheers

I have 2 in my 90 gal. One Potters leopard, beautiful and one bipartimus. The Potters I got from TNT (6months ago) and Bipart was from Dennis at FJW (4 months ago). They both took about 2 weeks before the were out everyday like clockwork. They eat everything, defend themselves fine against the maroon clown, the tangs, the anthias even the big Borbonious. Suckers have some knarwly fangs for eating small parasitic snails. I had the snails that eat clams and astrea's, after a few days of introducing the potters I've never seen one and I had tons! So I guess I'm lucky for 2 for 2 with these guys! I stayed up for a week researching these guys and everything you read says you got about a 20-30% chance with these fish.

Ouch! If you have a 20-30% survival rate that means that for every one that you buy that makes it, that 3 to FIVE of them had to die.

That's just so sad :-(

yeah theyre touch and go...i had one died from red band disease when i introduced that via some pyramid butterflies...have a chaoti at the moment who even eats flake... odds of survival are greatly affected by what u have in the tank when you introduce it imo same as most timid wrasse
