I've only been into saltwater for about 6 months now, what's a good LFS for lps and soft coral in the Houston area? Is there a clear winner or just depend on when the last order was received?

Thank you in advance?

Check out our sponsors. OceanLife, Fjw, and more those are the only 2 I go too. Check out the sponsors list or page

What side of town you on?
My favorites are Ocean Life, Fish Just Wonderful, and Infinity Fish. Scroll down the Sponsors section for addresses. There are others but these are the closest to me with great selection I frequent. I keep telling myself I'm going to make it to the North Side of town to check those LFS out but it has not happen yet.

Fish Gallery has a new Woodlands location as well. I recommend that you take a Saturday, chart out our sponsors, and hit them all! It will be worth your time and make for a nice Saturday! We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of sponsors on basically all sides of town (with the exception of the northeast that is, sorry haha).

I live in Southwest. I like Infinity, but toward north side of Houston. I think FJW & Fish Gallery in woodlands.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to check out these shops when I get a chance.

I've been going to Oceanlife a lot since setting up my tank a few months ago. Very clean, no dead fish floating in tanks, large frag tanks, and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. oh and the prices are really good.

Personal opinion but I think a few members may agree, but stay away from "the aquarium world"

290 and hollister

Great place to bring kids but not to buy. Overpriced imo and something about there filtration system not sure if I'm getting this correct but heard they run a one way filtration so if one tank is contaminated then all will be. Ever since I heard that I have stayed away

Ah! Most stores do run on some form of a closed loop, most are by row or section. If they are running their whole system on one large closed loop then yes, it would be near impossible to isolate any infected tanks so if one tank or section has a diseased fish chances are many do. Typically when I go into a new lfs to shop for a fish I will always ask how their loop is sectioned off so if I see any dead or diseased fish I know which tanks to avoid because I know all the tanks on that particular loop. Its not fool proof, but it helps :) Always QT New Fish!

Unfortunately I don't have a quarantine tank.[emoji15] no space to have one at the moment. I just hope that our sponsors lfs are trustworthy. Knock on wood my yellow tang from fish gallery from there grand opening still swimming strong and eating like a pig. Ruby dragonette from FJW still scavenging around .
