For a cool effect you could do a fish only with minimal rocks and no sand. Then mount the lights underneath.

Leaffish, no reason you can't if you get the right amount of PAR to them, but that will cause show on one side of them, unless you have lights on both sides. One side would look kinda like the bottom of the branches do right now.

Well having the lights on the side has another pitfall. You'll be able to look directly into the light, which would hurt if you have strong lighting.

well i was thinking of adding a NO aqua glo to give the tank a blue hue since my hood only has white lights

i have one of the 20 watt suction cup stick on blue lights from the DrFoster catalog. I will try sticking it on the outside and see if I can get a pic to post here for you. Since the back is covered with I will have to stick it on one end so it wont cover the whole tank -- but you should be able to tell from how well that end is lite how it might look from the back on a whole tank :)

Ok here are the pics -- I think the lighting would be better if it were across the back. As it is on the ends the bulb is larger than the tank so a good deal of light is wasted.
