Hi everyone,
I want to move some of my live rock from my 55 gallon to reef to my 30 gallon but I don't want any hitchhikers to make the journey. I want to start over with these rocks and turn them into dry rock. How would I go about starting over with the live pieces? Do I just let them sit outside? Soak them in fresh water then scrub them or a combination of methods? Any advice you guys can offer would be most appreciated, thanks!

I'd let them dry out in the sun and then bleach them. Bleach is great for removing all the organic matter. I wouldn't do acid unless the rocks are heavily covered. Just remember...NEVER boil rock. You can skip the sun part and go directly to bleach if you like. If you do this outside and a well ventilated area you can add vinegar to the bleach bath which will increase the strength and cleaning power. Just be careful as it creates a toxic gas. As long as your outside in a ventilated area you'll be fine though.

After you bleach them...rinse them off well and let them dry. Then they'll be ready to use.

Dry them out, bleach them, then soak them in fresh rodi water. Add lanthanum chloride and test for phosphate. You want to get the phosphate out of the rock.
