Are there any places on the south side that are south of beltway in the League City area?

I hear it’s difficult to keep your new tank and have it filled. I hate to have a rusty CO2 tank in my living room.

Is it better to buy used?

Hello Reefahholic,

I live in League City also and I had the same issue. I had bought a new aluminum CO2 cylinder and didn't want to send it out to be filled or swap for an old tank. I had to call around to several places but I finally found a place!!

This place filled my CO2 tank while I waited:

Western Sales & Testing
2814 East "P" Ave.
Deer Park, TX 77536
(281)479-6700

I think it was $10 to fill a 5lb tank. They really prefer cash. They ran my card, but I could tell the guy didn't like having to write up a receipt so that he could take a $10 payment!!! ...I'll take cash next time. This place also does cylinder recertifications.

This place is in a very industrial location... drive slow, I remember the roads being a little rough.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck,
RobbyeD

Hey thanks so much RobbyeD! I’ll look them up and if I can find a place closer to us I’ll get back with you. Which places did you try around here? I know there is a paintball place off of Dixie Farm road or 2351. I’ll try to touch base with those guys and I’ll get on the phone with a lot of other guys.

I’ll PM you if I find another place closer.

This may be a legit option for us.

CO2 refill Houston
From one small 5lb cylinder to 100 large 50lb cylinders we can refill your CO2 gas cylinders at our South Houston, TX location. We're on the Southeast side of Houston, TX and our refill station for high pressure gas cylinders is in operation Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. You can come by anytime during office hours and we'll be happy to refill your gas cylinders while you wait. We only use High Grade, Food-Quality Carbon Dioxide (CO2), so this is great for your aquariums, soda, beer, or other sensitive applications. For very large numbes of high pressure tanks that need refilling, you may want to call in advance 713-944-7900, or be prepared to return the following day to pick up your full tanks. Our co2 delivery trucks run every day servicing our gas cylinder customers from Galveston, TX to Conroe, TX. If you are in The Woodlands, Spring, Pasadena, Baytown, Bayport, Kingwood, Sugarland, Katy, or anywhere in between we have delivery routes near you. Our family business started in 1947 with just Houston Texas, but we have spread out to cover the entire Houston Metropolitan area. Here is our our address and directions if you want to come by and speak to someone in person.

Quick note from unrelated company:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your tank MUST be tested and up to date! CO2 tanks must have a hydrostatic test completed every 5 years to ensure they can safely hold pressure. The date of this test is stamped into the top of the cylinder. This means the stamp on your tank must be up-to-date. WE CANNOT AND WILL NOT FILL OUT OF DATE TANKS. This only results in a hefty fine for us and a dangerous situation for you if you have a faulty tank. Also, we do perform the hydrostatic testing.
When the out of date tank has that new stamped date, will be happy to fill it for you.

Here is an example of the location of the date on a tank:

In this example, the tank can be filled until August 2022, at which point it needs to be hydrostatically tested again. When the test is complete the tank will be stamped with a new date.

I would not use CO2 from a paintball shop. You want food grade CO2-a place like brewery.

Great video. Thanks for doing that!
Do they do aluminum 10 pound tank inspection? I have a tank that’s need to be inspected and the place by me does not inspect 10 pound bottles only 20 and up.

Also, you can chill your tank as it will fill better, meaning they will fill fuller. I usually put my tank in the freezer or fridge so they are nice and cold when I get them full.

I know Carbonics does hydrotests (or whatever it is) but their machine is currently broken. They have my kegerator's 5# one right now... They said it should be up within two weeks (as of a week ago). CO2 tanks are only good for 5 years from the date stamp on them. They'll do a new stamp after they run the test.

The test was $29, fill was $25.

He told me they do indeed do inspections. He didn’t mention if there was a certain size limit. I bet they will do it from the impression I got.
