Just purchased a mag drive 1800 aquarium pump. I will be running a Precision Marine Bullet 1 protein skimmer coming our of a 30g. PM refugium, for a 150 reef. Does anyone use this pump? I am a little leary about the price, compared to other pumps, it was much cheaper and I am wondering if I am sacrificing quality for price.

thanks for the reply. i noticed you are in clear lake, where? i live in brookwood. i have a 150g that i am currently changing to a sump/ refug. from a wet dry. i tried to make it work, but the nitrates are starting to build too fast......tired of heavy water changes!

I've been running a Mag 18 (in sump) for my main return and a Mag 12 (in sump) for my skimmer, both for nearly a year now, and they are running just as well now as the day I hooked them up. I haven't been able to tell whether they run too hot or not. My 135, without MHs or a heater, stays at around 78 degrees. When I had MHs, I probably could have used a chiller, but I had lots of fans blowing, and the temp stayed around 82 then, and that was during the summer. I'd say go for it.

I also have a135g tank and am running a Mag 18 for my main return and a Mag 12 for my skimmer, however both pumps are running inline. As far as I'm concerned they are really good pumps for the money but do run a little warm but not much. I have two 250watt MH and two Blue supplemental VHO's on for 12 hours a day. There are 3 fans in my canopy and I have an inline chiller that keeps the temp right around 81 even in mid summer.

Good Luck!
