Do a Google search on "Durso standpipe". It's an easy to build PVC noise-reducing standpipe that fits in your rr overflow and quiets it down. When it is made correctly, the water level in your rr overflow box is only slightly lower than the tank level and you don't get the gurgling noise.

You should be able to find instructions, pics and advice on how to do it.

I put two durso standpipes in my overflow and it was amazingly quieter. IMO it is the best!
