Anyone growing mangroves in their display tank? I'm considering putting some in my wife's seahorse tank and maybe some in my mixed reef DT.

I had a really big one in a display tank once. This one was like 4' tall when I broke the tank down. They like to root in sand, and obviously have plenty of room to grow and a nice overhead light (I had a MH pendant).

They would do well in a really funky low flow seahorse tank, but probably not a mixed reef as the flow conditions aren't compatible.

Cheers
James

Bevoboy, where did you get your mangrove plants from? I just ordered six propagules form online. Was just wondering if there was somewhere local to buy them from.

T&T has them sometimes, but they aren't cheap.

I ordered mine online while ordering CUC for the pony tank.

Check your Magnesium, they need it and if it's too low then that's your problem, the leaves will also start turning yellowish when the Mag drops.

Raymond you wouldn't know Magnesium from Magneto chump :) Don't make me go over to Tnt and sabotage your little nano on the front counter. Q said for the right price he'll let the pink anemone walk. JK

I had lots of mangroves that i collected over the years in a 55g fuge. They all grew into big and healthy bushes with the roots lifting them at least 12" out of the water below the spansule. Problem is they grew too big and broke through my fuge and flooded my living room. luckily I had put in a bypass before the fuge, so the fix was as simple as closing a valve. I will never put mangroves in a tank again tho. They are trees after all :)

PitufoGrunon, thanks for sharing that; I've always suspected that could happen with mangroves but never heard it from someone.
