Just got a Gonodactylellus viridis http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthro...acostraca/royslist/species.php?name=g_viridis
from city pets this weekend.

Put him in the 1.5g for now until i get him his own cage going. I would really like to get my 5.5 going again but have heard alot of people sayin that mantis/pistol shrimp have the ability to shatter glass. How true is that?

This species is only supposed to get 55mm or ~ 2" long so it will be a pretty small little guy.

Also being that this guy is only about an inch long right now, what kinda of crustaceons would be small enough for him to eat?

I saw those little guys.

I think you can put a pc of acrylic on the bottom and be fine since they pop the bottom glass when trying to burrow.

I would probably go for a 10g though.

Thanks for the reply Q. I got the smallest of the 5. He is almost all green with barely any grey/white markings like the others had. Sad thing is, The last time I saw him was when i put him in the tank..... I know he is in the tank because the entire bottom of the 1.5 is now full of tunnels. He is in with a few hermits but I think they may be a little big for him to hunt. He was also not interested in a freeze dried shrimp that i stuck on the end of a shish-ka-bob stick.

were you there saturday? If so I think I stood next to you for a few seconds while we were lookin at a tank......only met you once so....

stayed up way to late readin about mantis shrimp last night so im just gonna use my 12" acrylic cube for this guy. being that he only gets 2" this should be more than enough.

Also plan on including a chromi or dansel as I have read that a highly active fish will make the shrimp feel more secure, either that or have a backup meal

I found one mantis shrimp in my filter 2 months ago. They usually multiply like rats in a new york subway. I have a manderen and would not be surprised if he is eating them as well??

Now this is hard to believe.... I think you are referring to Amphipods or the like.

well very rare that you would see only 1 mantis shrimp in 2 months. it was a big shrimp maybe 1/4 of an inch in length roughly
