"Researchers have named this little creature Hippocampus japapigu, Latin for 'Japan pig'. The name came about thanks to the divers who first saw the minuscule animal and noted its resemblance to a teeny tiny baby pig.
And oh boy, is it tiny. These pygmy seahorses are approximately the size of a grain of rice, around 15 millimeters long. Their flattened shape and kaleidoscopic coloring disguise them as tiny bits of seaweed, making them easy to overlook.
But even at such a tiny size, their coloring is pretty spectacular. It's "very special", says Kevin Conway, researcher and curator of fishes at Texas A&M University to National Geographic."

Check out the video in the link below, they are truly adorable!

Where's my microscope!

I find it amazing that just when we think we have seen it all, we are reminded over and over again how we have only begun to scratch the surface of all of nature's secrets and surprises [emoji846]

Maybe by accident. I would think you would have to be looking very closely at whatever they were hiding in to notice them. Perhaps the original study was on the coral or seaplant itself and a slight movement caught someones eye? Either way, they are pretty awesome....and so small!
