Does anyone have a source for and any experience growing:

Brachionus rotundiformis s & ss type rotifers (I found that Reed Mariculture can special order and http://www.seahorsesource.com/cgi-bi...ory=Foods-Live but wanted to see if anyone had any other sources/experience raising).

A little more complicated...
Fabrea salina ciliates
Rhodomonas algae (to feed Fabrea salina)

I have not found sources for the above two.

Curious what you'll be doing with the ciliates? When I was feeding my rotifers with wild phyto I had some ciliates in the mix. I've been meaning to try to separate some ciliates out and get a culture of just them, but that will be very difficult as you can only see them under a microscope.

I'm just trying to get a where to get/how to do repository of info built up and some cultures going to play with. What I would really like to play with after learning on some larger larval fish species are flame/potter angles, black cap basslets and blue dot jawfish (these don't necessarily require smaller foods, but from what I have read, they have to go through a winter cycle(shorter photo period, cooler water temps) to induce spawning).

I like to get my hand on S and SS type rotifers too. Been reading and people said its hard to keep but that is just them.

Steve, how about we get in 1 order, split it up and try to culture it. Maybe Cat can join us too. One of us might culture it. :)

Let me take to Donnie to see if he can get us the rotifers.

Sounds good. Do you know which type of micro algae that is used to culture the s/ss most successfully? I will need to order that as well.

Look into rotigrow plus to raise and rotigreen omega to enrich prior to feeding. Great products.

Cat, are you in if Donnie can order it?
we can split the cost into 3.

Yes, definitely. I'll be getting some Parvocalanus copepods sometime but would love to try S rotifers first since they reproduce so much faster.

I'll be getting some Otohime/APBreed foods too, and a bottle of macro-feast. I'll let you know what my final order will be tonight.

If you just want to start practicing growing rotifers you should start with L type. They're easier to keep than the S type we're looking at getting here. Once you got your buckets/air etc worked out S shouldn't be too bad.

Sounds interesting, if I can get some starter rotis from kat, i'll be in on it too. I'll practice growing rots for my tank, then maybe for breeding neon gobies one day.

Richard, If you want L type, I got some for you. Cat got her L type from me anyway.
Only thing you need to buy is their food(rotigrow plus) and you are good to go. I like to pass my rotifers around so if something happen to mine, i know where to go to get it back. LOL

If someone would like to split the rotigrow stuff, I'd be up for that. Its really more of an experiment in curiousity for me, so I know that I will not need a full batch. Alternatively, I'd be happy just buying a portion of it from one of yall.
