Got monti eating nudibranchs again. Had them like six years ago. Got them from a local LFS. I always struggle with dipping corals. They usually struggle after. But I guess I need to start uuugh.

It was a jedi mind trick. it was maybe 1/4 eaten. Did a coral RX dip and brushing the infected area with a tooth brush last night, all skeleton this evening.

Looks like my spongoda has a couple, but seems to only have a little damage.

Thinking of getting a small wrasse. thoughts?

My friend in Key West has them right now too. I’ll see what he’s doing with it and get back with ya.

I think people do it (use wrasses) but I'm not sure (don't remember) if their monties ever thrive (long term). IRC the majority eventually end up pulling the monties out. Hopefully Reefaholic will come back with better news.

Unfortunately this is how it is. These things are tough to get rid of and if you have few montis, generally best to remove. I've had good luck with Melanurus Wrasse in the past, as well as six lines, but they are mean little buggers. Yellow Coris is also supposed to be good for them, but I have no experience with them and Nudis. I've found Polyp Lab Reef Primer to be the best option as far as dip for them. Coral RX is a bit rougher, especially when you have to do stuff like scrape for eggs. Best to dip and look for eggs ever 5 days or so. They reproduce in huge numbers and you have to keep on top of the dips, just takes one getting through and starting it all over, and I'd recommend doing it for 8-12 weeks.

This is way worst than AEFW - only way to get rid of it unfortunately is to get all the montis out of the tank.

Nah not even close. Coral Rx knocks out monti nudis very well. AEFW are like herpes. You get rid of them when you kill the host and everyone they came in contact with.

I had the monti eaters on a frag and beat them by dipping every other day for about a week. Used Revive and dipped till the frag looked like it would not survive another go. That was the only monti I had so it was rather easy.

If you have a lot of encrusted monti's, I would set up a frag tank, save some frags of the ones in your main tank, and try a wrasse.

If you can take everything out to dip, if I remember correctly none of the dips kill the eggs so you want to either cut off the edge they are eating, scrub it, or dip a few times to catch the eggs hatching and killing them before the next batch of eggs.
