just need some opinions here....I am contemplating moving my 75 from one spot to another re vamping the sump system......... what I was gonna do... was take the water and all the stuff and drain them into a holding barrel.... move, clean, and re-setup my tank in another area....pump the water back in and set up the rock......

any bad that would come from this?

don't move the sand bed and use a bowl inside of the tank to pour the water into and you will be fine.
you should let it run for a weak or to and monitor nitrates and amonia, since you will have ditritus from moving the rocks. you could also vacuum a thin layer of the top.

I did the same thing u did cope, i drained enough water into a holding barrel until it was manageable to carry, set it up and pump the water back but slowly. Just like flexrac said, u will stir up some detritus from the rocks but if u do it slow and steady it will be minimal.

Make 90gal of new saltwater.

Remove the rocks & put in bin with used tankwater.

Suck out entire sandbed.

Move tank.

Wash sand with garden hose(or buy new sand).

Put rock back in tank, then sand, fill up with remaining used tank water, fill rest up with new saltwater.

If you rinse the sand bed you will get another cycle. If you have cured rocks and save some of your old water it can speed up the cycle. But If you have any fish or corals and don't want to have them in tubs for a week or so, don't rinse the sand bed.

I moved tanks lots of time and i did like Tempset wrote.
Just save you little live sand and wash all sand with garen hose.
put a small bowl in the tank and pump water in that bowl (doing this help not stirring the sand and your water will not be cloudy).

I moved my 72 across town twice and left the sand bed in.. just dont disturb it.. drain the water all the way down to the sand and then pull the rocks.
put your rocks back in and wait a few days to put the corals and fish back in

Both ways will work. All a matter of opinion on this. Depends on if you feel the need to clean the sand. If the tank has been setup for more than a year I would clean the sand. That's just me though. :)

I siphoned all my sand while draining the tank. I did not rinse with a hose.
I also used a large plate instead of a bowl when refilling with water.

Guess I'm different that way.

Hope you dont use that water again because you have stir up the sand already.
That water is going to be dirty..lol
If you drain half the tank water and save it then siphone all the sand after and then throw that water away then you are ok.
Plate -bowl same thing..lol

I have moved tank without rinse the sand before and have no problem.
I did this to Eugene's 75g tank. moved fron the back of the house to the front.
Karlo and i swaped his 90g to 120g but we rinsed the sand.
Like Mario said, drain all the water and dont stir it up.
I put corals in after i fill it up with half old water and new water.

I first siphoned enough water to hold the rocks and fish in a 30 gallon. Then I cleaned the gravel (and threw away the dirty water).
